Kurdish Runner with Repeating Botehs

Kurdish Runner with Repeating Botehs

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find antique Persian runners with a long and narrow format. So I was delighted when this fine Kurdish piece came my way. Good Kurdish weaving is among the best Persian weaving of the 19th century. This runner fits the bill well. It has beautiful fleecy wool, lovely harmonious natural dyes, and a very elegant repeating boteh design. Careful inspection of the botehs reveals their jewel-like drawing and a very unusual definition of the 'mother and child' design. The narrow borders are simple and elegant and complement the more ornate field well. Remarkably for a runner which normally receives a lot of traffic, the pile remains in good condition with original end and selvages intact. There are a couple of well executed old repairs which have been blended invisibly. This is a very classy runner which would look truly magnificent in the right space. Professionally cleaned.
