Pair of Tabriz Rugs

It is so unusual to find a pair of antique Persian rugs that have survived in good condition. Even more so to find a pair of Tabriz rugs as pretty as these. The design has clearly been influenced by European decorative arts. One immediately focuses on the central cartouche which is decorated with myriad flowers and birds. But it is the red roses, referred to as gol farang (foreign flower) in Persian art which bring this rugs to life and gives it a European character. The theme is repeated through the rest of the design and in the delightful borders with repeating ivory cartouches and roses. It is a very stylish and elegant composition which I believe is influenced by the use of only a handful of colours and the clever use of a mid-blue alongside the deeper sapphire blue. These rugs have a fine wool quality and a high knot count which adds to their refinement. In generally good condition, there are minor signs of wear commensurate with their age. Professionally cleaned. The sizes are 1.94m x 130m and 1.89m x 1.36m.
