Woven in the last quarter of the 19th century, this fine Persian village rug has the finesse of a sophisticated urban rug. Produced by the talented Bakhtiari weavers living in the Zagros mountains of southern Persia, it has a remarkably soft wool and beautiful dyes. The design is formal and supremely elegant. A central radial medallion floats above a ruby-red field surrounded by myriad flowers and leaves. There are all sorts of lovely colours in the details including subtle yellows, pinks, greens, ivory and light blues. The matching ruby-red main border continues the elegant floral theme which creates a harmony to the composition. Finely knotted with a thin pile this is an exceptional piece. Very good condition. Professionally cleaned.
