Khamseh Rug with Botehs

Khamseh Rug with Botehs

Probably initially woven for domestic use, this lovely tribal rug has all the hallmarks of the best Khamseh weavings. The quality is fine, with soft handspun wool and dyes derived from natural sources. The kilim ends and barber pole selvages are intact. The ubiquitous repeating boteh pattern in the field is beautifully drawn with each row of botehs turning in opposite directions. The spaces between the botehs is filled with myriad scattered ornaments, a sure sign of the expressiveness and independence of the weaver, which gives the rug a feeling of spontaneity. Note too the lovely terracotta border filled with equally charming botehs and other scattered floral ornaments. The entire composition is highly attractive. This accomplished rug is both collectible and decorative and has the added merit of being in excellent condition.
