Mid-Century Polish Abstract Tapestry

There is a long tradition of kilim and tapestry weaving in Poland which has often been eclipsed by the weaving of Western Europe, or otherwise been confused with weaving from other centres in Central Europe or the Balkans. This painterly piece is a fine 20th century representation of the tradition. High quality wool and sophisticated weaving techniques, specifically weft-faced plain weave and warp sharing to avoid slits, combined with a graphic geometric design has resulted in a striking textile art work which would work equally well on either a floor or wall. Unfortunately, we do not have an artist's name or name or workshop, but nevertheless, this piece deserves to be placed in a stylish modernist setting. In excellent condition, and professionally cleaned.
