Karagashli Shirvan Rug
The luminous colours and distinctive fan-like ornaments at each end of the repeat linked lozenges in the field identify this lovely rug as from the Karagashli Shirvan group woven in the Eastern Caucasus. Each lozenge contains further geometric ornamentation while the end panels include stylised quadrupeds. Other hooked lozenges and stylised animals fill the remaining spaces on the glowing sapphire blue field. Note too the dramatic borders. The pale yellow main border is filled with a repeat geometric design and is framed by two narrow guards decorated with colourful polygons. It is a joyful composition which is enhanced by the lovely colouring. Finely knotted with a thin low clipped pile which sharpens the design. The overall condition is good, with original ends and selvages intact. There are some wear through the centre of the rug which we have stabilised and conserved. Professionally cleaned. This beautiful and collectible rug has been priced sensibly to reflect the condition.
