Unusual Sindh Silk Embroidered Shawl

Unusual Sindh Silk Embroidered Shawl

This wonderful textile from Sindh province, Pakistan, is embroidered with fine silk in shades of fuchsia and grey. The field design is composed of repeating demi-lunes or half-moons, a potent symbol of transition between light and dark or perhaps between potential and growth. Note too the delightful rows of shrubs in the side panels, and the little baubles added to the embroidery in places. Remarkably, this piece has survived in excellent condition. One can imagine it being used as a shawl, as wall art or as an exciting decorative furnishing. Professionally cleaned.
