Bakshaish Rug

Woven on a wool foundation, this lovely rug displays the best elements of Persian village rug weaving. Hand spun wool and wonderful natural dyes, except the brown areas which are undyed camels' wool. The pretty anchor medallion seems to be floating above the white field which is also decorated with colorful lanterns. Lots other pretty geometric ornaments decorated the rest of the field. The brown borders are decorated with more geometric ornaments and the whole composition is cheerful and archaic. The size of this rug is also attractive, slightly square. In generally good condition, with areas of minor wear commensurate with the age.
