Hamadan Runner with Mina Khani Design

Hamadan Runner with Mina Khani Design

There was an astonishing variety of charming weavings produced in the villages around the city of Hamadan at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, often inspired by the tribal tradition of the local Kurdish inhabitants. However, this lovely runner with a beautifully drawn repeating Mina Khani design shows the influence of the urban rug weaving tradition which also influenced the village weavers. As one would expect the wool quality and dyes are excellent. Note the lovely terracotta background and several other lovely colours including two shades of green, a very nice light blue and the ivory border. This is a particularly fine piece which has resulted in a thin and fine pile. The design is crisply represented. In good condition, and professionally cleaned. A very pretty and happy runner which would uplift many corridors and other decorative settings.
