Tapestry Panel by Eva Nemeth

This lovely little panel came from the same home as the other Eva Nemeth tapestry, and they share the same characteristics. Although unsigned this delightful miniature tapestry has the hallmarks of work by the Hungary designer, Eva Nemeth. Two stylised male figures in folk costume stand either side of a similar female figure in what appears to be a line dance. It is a simple yet charming image, and a theme often seen in Nemeth's designs. Woven in Hungary with soft and supple wool, this piece is skillfully worked. Different shades have been plied together to create depth and texture. Furthermore complex interlocking techniques have been used to avoid slits to form a very solid fabric. Nemeth's designs seem to have been heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk art. An interesting blog I recently came across suggested this may have been a result of her collaboration with a Danish avante-garde design business called Illums Bolighus who marketed her work in Scandinavia.
