Scandinavian Wool Rug
Probably woven in Sweden in the early 20th century in a domestic setting, this wool rug or Rya is woven with soft hand-spun wool and and some really lovely natural dyes, including soft pinks, greens, yellows and light blues. The design is dominated by a flowering urn at the bottom of the mottled charcoal field with naively drawn flowers and leaves scattered through the field. The pink border is equally charming and is decorated with stylised leaves. The whole composition is very 'folksy' and typical of the genre. One can imagine this piece working equally well on a floor or wall. Excellent condition and professionally cleaned.
