Fine Isfahan Rug
This is a fine old Isfahan rug with many lovely features. The light blue field is delightful and has a beautifully drawn design with layers of activity. A flowering urn of roses flanked by antlered deers lies within columns and a mihrab. The rest of the field is filled with more flowers and meandering vines and birds. It is all so elegant and engaging. The ivory outer field has further floral decoration and more birds, while the crimson main border frames the field composition with palmettes and meandering vines. However, my favourite feature of this rug are the minor inner and outer guard stripes which are filled with rows of miniature buildings, just so charming and absolutely sensational work. This rug will reward repeated viewings. One can enjoy it over and over again, a wonderful example of Persian weaving.
