Hamadan Rug

This lovely rug is a testament to the creative skills of the Persian village weavers in the 19th century. Woven in one of the myriad villages around the city of Hamadan in West Persia, fine wool and superb dyes have been combined with wonderful artistry. The indigo field is decorated with a lovely rendition of the classic Herati pattern and some additional floral elements to create a unique design. But it is the border which really catches the eye, and reveals the weaver's imagination. Stylised shrubs and flowers have been drawn in an expressive and painterly fashion. creating a sense of grace and beauty. It is quite a unique design, which raises it to another level. This rug was in my home for many years, and reluctantly I am now offering it for sale.
