Wool Tapestry by Eva Nemeth
The Hungarian designer Eva Nemeth created many distinctive tapestry designs that were woven in both her own country and in Scandinavia where her work became very popular. Inspired by nature and antique European tapestries, her work can be easily identified and has an immediate charm. This piece fits the bill. Stylised female figures in folk costume appear in a forest landscape, framed by geometric borders, a modernist version of the classic Verdure designs. The colours are subtle and delicate, greys, ivory, light blues and light pinks blending in poetic harmony. Nemeth's initials appear in the bottom right hand corner of the field. Technically, this is a finely woven fabric combining interlocking tapestry and slit weft techniques. In very good condition. Professionally cleaned.
