Benlian Tabriz Carpet

The name of Benlian is associated with fine Tabriz carpets from the early 20th century. Edward Benlian was born in Constantinople and moved to England as a boy with his family in 1889 where he soon started work in his father's carpet business. Benlian took over the business and began to successfully produce carpets from Tabriz with reinterpretations of the classic Persian repertoire. His carpets were all signed with the famous Benilian star in the corner of the main border. These carpets proved to be very popular and remain in demand until today. Our lovely carpet is a great example. The fine quality materials are matched by the elegant classic design featuring a central anchor medallion surrounded my scrolling vines, mythical animals and lions hunting deer. The subtle tones are dominated by the ivory field and soft pink border, but include shades of pale blue, green and light brown which the carpet a light appearance. The composition is highly sophisticated and decorative, and would suit any space from a drawing room to a bedroom.. In excellent original condition, and professionally cleaned.
