Fine Moldovan Kilim

This highly decorative kilim was woven in ancient Bessarabia, now the modern Republic of Moldova, sandwiched between Romania and the Ukraine. The black field is decorated with large leaves and shrubs that flow in a harmonious repeat pattern. The black field gives the design a three-dimensional feel which was surely the weaver\'s intention. Kilims were originally used as wall decoration in Bessarabia, often to warm the home. This piece has survived in excellent condition and was probably primarily used on the wall through the generations. Today, it attracts us as a fine decorative floorcovering which would enhance many stylish decorative settings. It is clean and ready for immediate use.
