Spectacular Kurdish Carpet with Saffron Field

Rarely have I seen such a beautiful golden yellow dye in a carpet. One wonders how the makers were able to produce such a wonderful colour with organic materials. The design is composed to display the field in its full glory. Note also that the green border also has a tinge of the yellow dye. A cartouche at the top end of the carpet has an inscribed date of 1230, circa 1910.
