Fine Abadeh Rug

Finely knotted and with an amazing range of detail this Abadeh rug is a very nice example of the work of nomadic weavers who eventually settled in the towns and villages around the city of Shiraz in South Persia. The wool is handspun and the dyes are natural. Note the beautiful drawn archaic medallion complemented by the spandrels in the corner of the field. The simplicity of the main border provides a suitable contrast to the richness of the field. This is Persian village weaving at its best. Cherished through the generations, this rug has survived in excellent condition, retaining its original ends, and has recently been professionally cleaned.
