Handsome Antique Bidjar Carpet

Bidjar was populated by settled Kurds in the 19th century, where they set up workshops to produce some wonderful rugs and carpet. This piece has all the hallmarks of the best Bidjar carpets, fabulous quality combined with a design which resembles early Kurdish carpets with the Afshan design. It has a wool foundation and a fine wool pile. The natural dyes have yielded wonderful saturated colours, especially the yellows, light blues and reds. The design is open and calming, lovely bold palmettes spaced well, and lovely borders. And in terms of condition it has survived well with just enough wear to give it the \'lived-in\' look. It does have some small old repairs, but the pile is overall very good with original ends and sides intact.Dating to around 1875, this is a highly decorative and desiable Persian carpet.
