Tapestry by Eva Nemeth

Although unsigned this delightful miniature tapestry has the hallmarks of work by the Hungary designer, Eva Nemeth. Two stylised birds face each other in front of a row of stylised trees, a very simple yet charming theme often seen in Nemeth's designs. Woven in Hungary with soft and supple wool, this piece is skillfully worked. Different shades have been plied together to create depth and texture. Furthermore complex interlocking techniques have been used to avoid slits to form a very solid fabric. Note too the long fringes which appear to be original. Nemeth's designs seem to have been heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk art. An interesting blog I recently came across suggested this may have been a result of her collaboration with a Danish avante-garde design business called Illums Bolighus who marketed her work in Scandinavia.
