Fine Joshaghan Rug

Joshaghan is a town in central Persia where rugs has been woven for centuries to a very high standard. This fine rug, in a cute small format is a ideal representation of the tradition. It is finely knotted with lovely velvety wool The repeating shrubs are a design associated with Joshaghan, although this piece is centred by a stylised cruciform medallion. It is often said that Joshaghan rugs were made by Armenian weavers living in the town which may well be the case with this rug. Cherished through the generations, this piece has survived in excellent condition, and has a jewel-like quality to it.
