Fine Bonat Carpet

Woven by the settled Khamseh weavers in South Persia around the city of Shiraz, this is a fine example. Made with handspun wool and good dyes it has a dark rich colouring and a velvety texture. The design is bold and archaic. I have rarely seen a central medallion with this format flanked by four complementary carouche-like motifs in each corner of the field. Lots of charming filler ornaments. It certainly makes a statement in a useful size and would make a great furnishing carpet. It has survived the generations well, with minimal signs of wear or damage. Ends and side cords are original and intact. Professionally cleaned in our workshop.
