Fine Heriz Rug

Fine Heriz Rug

19th century Heriz weavings of this quality, which are often referred to as Serapi rugs, rarely come in this useful scatter rug format. It is a fine piece with exceptional wool quality and a higher than average knot count. The weaver has very cleverly managed to weave the design of a larger carpet into a small er rug without overcrowding the design. It feels spacious and elegant while also suggesting a village rather than workshop origin. The colour combination is very attractive. The red background of the field differents to the pink border while the midnight blue medallion and spandrels feel like they are floating on another plane. Note the way the white details lifts the whole composition. I like this rug very much. It feels archaic and interesting, yet it has been made to a very high standard by a talented weaver who knew exactly what they were doing. Appreciated by its previous owners through the generations, it has survived in very good condition with only minimal signs of wear. Professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use.
