Fine Qum Rug

Fine Qum Rug

Carpet production in Qum, in Central Persia, only got going from around 1920, and swiftly built a reputation for weaving fine rugs with excellent quality wool. Designs were drawn from a variety of sources, including classical carpets, tribal rugs and even textiles. This pretty rug has a design seen more frequently on textiles, but also appears in the Persian rug repertoire. The field contains narrow vertical bands with repeating botehs and other floral ornaments. The direction of the botehs makes this an ideal design for hanging on the wall. Woven with fine quality wool and a high knot count, this piece has been cherished through the generations and has survived in excellent condition.
