Bidjar Rug

Good Bidjar rugs are among the most desirable of the Persian village rugs of the 19th century. Woven by the talented settled Kurdish weavers, they are known for their very solid structure, their wonderful dyes and wide range of designs. This rug fits the bill well. It has a tight all wool foundation, velvety wool and a delightful range of colours which have all been produced from natural sources. It is remarkable to think this rug is about 140 years old. The design is a classic medallion design which has the so-called Herati design both in the sapphire medallion itself and in the terracotta background around it. Note the lovely little details along the side of the field. The pretty border has rows of repeating rosettes in various colours including a charming green and light blue. Professionally cleaned, this superb rug is ready for immediate use.
