Fine Isfahan Rug

Fine Isfahan Rug

A lovely old Isfahan rug with a fine weave, thin pile and a soft texture. The field design is essentially in the prayer design format although it is quite unusual as it is centred by a medallion with a plinth beneath it and an anchor above it. Note also the spandrels with expressive strapwork at the top of the field. The colours are lovely, combining a raspberry background with lots of ivory, pale greens, and a rare amber. All very harmonious. The condition is good with minimal repairs, even wear throughout, giving it the elusive lived-in loo. The ends and sides are in good condition. This is a lovely old Persian rug which would work in many decorative settings.
