Fine Sarouk Carpet

Although this pretty carpet was woven in the 1930s, when the use of natural dyes was eclipsed by chemical dyes, nevertheless in pockets of the Arak region of West Persia, certain weavers continued to use natural dyes to produce their carpets. This is one of those carpets. The soft sapphire blue field is decorated with a spaciously drawn repeating Herati pattern which is easy on the eye. The secondary colours, a subtle terracotta and a pale blue give the design a light and happy feel. This is complemented by the ivory border decorated with repeating palmettes, leaves and meandering vines in the same soft tones of the field. It is a highly decorative piece which has the added benefit of surviving in very good condition. Solid durable structure. A few minor repairs to the ends. Professionally cleaned in our own workshop.
