Bakhtiari Village Rug

There are very few antique Persian rugs of any type with a yellow background. This is probably because yellow pigments were relatively more expensive and difficult to obtain from plants and vegetal sources. Hence the rarity and desirability. This pretty Bakhtiari rug has a lovely abrashed saffron yellow field which is decorated with a charming interpretation of the Herati design, only on a larger scale. All the elements are expressively drawn, and in particular, the fishlike leaves which appear to have eyes. All very enigmatic and charming. Note also the complementary floral border which frames the field so nicely. In good condition and professionally cleaned.
