Karabagh Rug With Gol Farang Design

Karabagh Rug With Gol Farang Design

This delightful rug comes from the Karabagh region of the Caucasus and dates to around 1900. The repeating field design of stylised roses on an abrashed ruby red field is known as the Gol Farang design and is a design that has been influenced by European decorative styles. Note the way the leaves change from shades of green to blue. Note also the little male figure in shorts. One wonders who he is. Could it be his garden? Drawn in cheerful colours with fine silky wool, it is framed by an equally charming floral border on a black ground which creates a painterly three-dimensional impression. This rug is an excellent size which would make an impact in many situations. Generally good condition. Kilim ends and sides original and intact. Professionally cleaned.
