Fine Caucasian Kilim

Fine Caucasian Kilim

A very fine example of Caucasian weaving with hand-spun wool and natural dyes, dating to around 1890. Woven in the Shirvan district of the Caucasus, the design is striking in its format of horizontal bands with geometric symbols. The stitch is very fine with high quality workmanship. Note the braiding around the outside edges. The colours have matured and mellowed with great subtlety. This piece has survived the generations in very good condition with very little signs of use or wear.
