East Anatolian Rug

This beautiful rug was woven in the eastern regions of Anatolia by nomadic peoples. The wool is of the highest quality, as are the dyes. Note in particular the apricot dye in the border. The abrash through the rug is wonderful. The design presents many archaic elements including unusual square panels through the field with latchhooks, centred by expressive crucifom motifs. The panels at each end of the field with gul-like ornaments are also very interesting. Note the inner guard borders, one with repeating \\\'S\\\' motifs, the other with an early reciprocal motif. The rug has survived in excellent condition with minimal wear. The selvages and ends are intact. Professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use. This rug is a rare and beautiful example of the type which I would classify as both decorative and collectible.
