Ukrainian Wool Kilim

When choosing a carpet for a decorative scheme, Ukrainian Kilims are a great option. This lovely piece is a fine example. Woven in the Poltava region of Eastern Ukraine at the end of the 19th century, the subtle colours, in particular the abrashed turquoise blue field, the greens, pinks and honey border, are all delightful and very easy to live with. The lovely but elegant floral design is right out of the Ukrainian folk art tradition copybook, combining simplicity of design with marvellous details. Sophisticated weaving techniques have been employed to create a sense of three-dimensionality and texture, almost like a pictorial tapestry. Its a delightful piece from a group which is becoming harder and harder to find. Some restoration, but in very good condition. Professionally cleaned.
